An Alternative Harthal proposal for protesting

Struggle for rights and protests expression are breath of democratic life. Growth and expansion of the democracy everywhere was through this only. However the name of all these creating crores of rupees waist and obstructing growth and progress leading to culmination of making day to day life obsessive is anti democratic.

Harthal is the last resort to express non aggressive civilized protest and being used when a problem is faced by nation or society at large. But today for anything and everything, even small groups use it to show off their might.

Fear is the only reason for shutters being left unlifted and vehicle not take out on the road. In addition, People do not want to get into any controversies .Common people spend the day as a good holiday spending time before TV or even going out of states to enjoy. Is it protest of Democratic country ? Organization with social commitment should join together to turn the table to constructive side and save the situation and the states and its feature.

If at all have a harthal have to be conducted, the same may be done in a non destructive and progressive style without causing damage to society and public life. People and organizations in general may deliberate on suitable ways. Talking and entering in dialogue to formulate and work out needed “ALTERNATIVE HARTHAL” method understanding its method and necessity .

How to conduct Swethendra Harthal due to Death


Homage to the deceased ones can be expressed by exhibiting their photos or posters outside the open shops.

Before the photo or the picture of the diseased appeared in news paper, flowers can be spread or Agarbathi may be lighted along with hanging of black flag;

Those who cannot agree with the new creative proposal may follow their old ways. However, few points to be remembered in the new proposal, public life is not obstructed , material production is not hampered, and progress is not obstructed. This is the way of expression of protests of grief in advanced nations by rationalistic citizen.

During conventional harthal people remain inactive , but in this case their activities are not hampered. Same time protest is widely expressed and recorded .This Free hartals will ensure a democratic participation of the civil society in a civilised manner.

Sensible democrats have to discuss widely the constructive aspects of the proposal and try to practice this effectively for their own good and good of the nation and our great system at large.
